Consequently, as your officiant, I believe that marriage at its finest is never a ball-and-chain experience, but an adventure that sets a couple free to be who they are truly meant to be as individuals and as an intimate, united force of nature. There is nothing quite like finding The One who is your best friend and advocate through thick and thin!
My all-inclusive wedding packages include collaborating with a couple via one in-person appointment (and additional meetings as needed) as well as unlimited contact over e-mails and phone calls. My fee includes my time and travel, and performing an original, creative, personalized ceremony unique to each couple. After each wedding, I complete and mail the marriage license that is secured from the county clerk 90 days prior to the wedding date. If you don’t need me present for a rehearsal, I’ll give you a quote for a lesser fee.
Here are some of the services I offer besides weddings:
Renewal of Vows
Many couples decide to renew their vows on their anniversaries or after significant passageways in their marriage. Renewing vows after 10, 20, 25 or 50 years are a special moment that emphasizes that in spite of everything, you would do it all over again with your significant other. Again, such renewals can be relatively short and simple on the beach or at the backyard of a home, or they can become a quasi-wedding event at a rented facility with a D.J., sit-down dinner and more.
Often couples come to me who have been married in a quick civil ceremony at a county courthouse or in Las Vegas, and now they wish to have their “real” wedding. Sometimes no one knows except the couple that they are already married, so I can keep it on the down-low. Post-elopement ceremonies are popular for military couples or couples with immigration issues who now wish to have a more lavish wedding celebration like they’ve always envisioned.
I do provide pre-marital counseling for couples in a single three-hour session. Premarital counseling, while recommended, is not required for me to conduct your wedding. My counseling fees are separate from my wedding fees, and I seek to make them affordable, while also taking into account my time and travel. I also seek to cultivate enough relationship with each couple that if they hit snags during the early years of their marriage, I’m available to step in to help. A typical premarital counseling session will cover communication/conflict resolution techniques, finances, goals, establishing solid boundaries with family and friends, and more.
I also have an excellent track record in helping couples with troubled marriages discover fresh intimacy in their marriage, as well as recover and rebound from unfortunate affairs or abuse. Often I ask couples in these situations to take two days off during the week and I’ll do two intensive 4-5 hour sessions over those days that gets to the heart of the problems and provide solutions for getting past the crisis and bringing personal and marital healing.
Child Blessings and Dedications
I’ve done a number of short ceremonies in which parents make pledges in raising their child or children. These blessing times can be religious or nonreligious, involve the baptism of a child by sprinkling or immersion if it is an older child, or simply anointing the child and parents with oil. Once again, I personalize and customize such ceremonies and offer suggestions that include and involve the parents, godparents, and other family members and friends.
Funerals and Memorials
During the past decade I’ve conducted memorials for a number of former brides whose fathers or other relatives passed away unexpected. As sad as that is, it is also quite a privilege for me to assist a family in rightly remembering the life and legacy of a loved one! I work closely with the family to create a service that captures the heart and honors the memory of the departed. Every situation is different, and I offer my experience, compassion, comfort and listening ear, and conduct such memorials in a way that is personal, heartfelt, and poignant. I do services in churches, funeral homes, and at gravesides.
My aim is to offer my services in a way that helps and encourages people wherever they are on the spiritual spectrum. Life is a journey, and I count it a privilege to be a part of people’s lives in times of celebration and sorrow.
